Note From the Author
In today's society, children are exposed to an amazing amount of technology, both for education and pleasure. Computers, video games, cell phones, and tablets dominate every aspect of a child's life. Although this exposure is necessary given the direction of our civilization, it leaves little room for one of the most important areas in a child's life; nature.
Increasing a child's exposure to and appreciation of nature can have a lifelong positive impact. And the earlier this exposure begins the more receptive the child will be. Children's books are one of the most popular forms of early education and can bring nature indoors for children who are not able to experience firsthand exposure on a daily basis. This was one of the main reasons I decided to write a children's book focused on nature; more specifically, hunting.
Hunting is widely misunderstood and often demonized by our media and culture. Many children are taught at a very early age that hunting is wrong and grow up with the belief that hunters are evil people who kill animals just for the fun of it. Obviously, this is an inaccurate statement as hunters are one of the most powerful driving forces behind wildlife management and habitat conservation. The vast majority of hunters care passionately about wildlife and the outdoors. They do whatever it takes to ensure that their children will be able to enjoy nature as much as they have. Sportsmen know that hunting teaches children firearm safety, outdoor competency, and to love and respect nature. These are three of the main points that I strive to impart in my books.
Thank you and happy hunting!
